3. Two Homemade Castile Soap Laundry Recipes

Here is a recipe for homemade Castile soap laundry detergent, which should last you several months:

  • 7 liters of hot water
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 250 milliliters liquid castile soap
  • 1/3 cup salt

Combine hot water and dry ingredients, then add Castile soap. Mix well. You could add the essential oil of your choice when the laundry soap has cooled. Store in resealable containers. Shake well before using.

This recipe includes ingredients that require a few safety precautions, including wearing gloves:

  • 1 bar of finely grated body soap (Ivory, or Castile soap)

    4. Homemade washing powder with soda crystals

    This recipe combines soda crystals and Marseille soap, which makes it an extremely effective detergent, especially where the water needs to be softened.

    • 150 grams of Marseille soap

    • 2 liters of water
    • 6 tablespoons baking soda

    Melt the grated Marseille soap in a liter of hot water while stirring. Dilute the soda crystals in a little hot water, and add them to the soap. Add the baking soda while mixing. Add the rest of the cold water and the essential oil. Pour everything into a resealable bottle, and don’t forget to shake well before using.

    5. Wood ashes for homemade laundry

    And yes, you read that right, you can make a homemade lye recipe using wood ash. This is definitely the most economical laundry detergent recipe to try!

    Here are the necessary ingredients:

    • 150 grams of wood ash
    • 2 liters of water
    • 10 drops of essential oil

    Here are the preparation steps:

    • Remove larger pieces of wood ash with a sieve.
    • Pour the rest of the ashes into the water and leave to macerate for about 30 hours.
    • Filter with a funnel covered with a fine cloth the liquid, the detergent (you can also use a large coffee filter).
    • Then add a few drops of essential oil of your choice.

    You can store this homemade detergent in an airtight jar.
