How to make slime easily at home?

Looking for a fun activity to do with the kids? Teach them how to make slime! What is slime, you ask? It’s actually a viscous and sticky dough that children love to handle… But also adults. 🙂

Although it is available for purchase in a ready-made version, it is possible to make it at home. And admit, this option is much more fun! Here’s how to make slime, following different recipes.

1. The classic slime recipe with borax*

Here is a homemade slime recipe, in its classic version that uses borax:

  • 150 ml liquid white glue
  • ½ cup hot water (to mix with the glue)
  • 2 teaspoons of borax
  • 2/3 cup hot water (to mix with borax)
  • food coloring

Here are the now necessary steps to make a successful slime with borax:

  1. In a large bowl, pour the white glue then the ½ cup of hot water. Add a few drops of food coloring and stir to mix the ingredients well.
  2. In another bowl, completely dilute the borax with 2/3 cup of hot water, stirring well.
  3. Carefully pour the glue mixture into the bowl containing the diluted borax.
  4. Knead the slime that has formed, so that it holds together well. Discard the water, and blot the excess water from the slime ball.

To store the slime, put it in a resealable sandwich bag or in an airtight plastic dish and keep it in the fridge. It will be time to throw away the slime when it becomes dry and/or dirty.

* Because borax is poisonous if ingested, this slime recipe is not recommended for young children. In addition, an adult should be responsible for handling the borax during the development of this recipe.
