How to remove limescale stains from faucets?

how to descale a faucet?

Here at home our water is hard to clean, so the faucets quickly become stained with limescale and white residue that is difficult to clean. It is therefore important to descale the faucet regularly to keep it in good condition.

So today I offer you my best tips and tricks for removing limescale from a faucet easily.

1. Descale a faucet with white vinegar

I’m sure you guessed it… My first tip for removing limescale stains from a faucet is white vinegar! ?

Here is how to use vinegar against limescale:

  1. Heat a little white vinegar and soak a cloth.
  2. Apply the cloth and white vinegar to the faucet and leave for 30 minutes.
  3. Use a toothbrush and scrub to remove the limestone well and rinse the tap.

You can also fill a « ziploc » type bag with white vinegar and attach it to the faucet or even to the scaled-up shower head overnight to dissolve and remove the limescale.

2. Remove scale from the faucet with baking soda

Baking soda is another natural product to use to easily descale a faucet. Be careful, however, not to damage and scratch the surface of the faucet.

This trick is particularly effective for a “very” scaled-up tap:

  1. Dampen a sponge or cloth with very hot water and sprinkle with baking soda.
  2. Scrub lime stains from the faucet aerator.
  3. Rinse and repeat to thoroughly clean all traces of limescale.

You can also use a baking soda cleaning paste by mixing baking soda with water. Then apply the paste to the lime deposits and scrub with a small brush to clean everything.

3. Remove limescale from the faucet aerator

Another trick from grandmother to descale a faucet and its aerator is to use lemon or lemon juice.

  1. Cut a lemon in half and rub the traces of lime on the tap.
  2. Leave on for a few minutes, rub with a cloth and rinse to finish.

For a heavily scaled faucet aerator:

Attach half a lemon directly to the base of the faucet for several hours or better, overnight to properly descale the faucet aerator. You can also just use lemon juice.

4. Descaling the faucet with citric acid

If you are looking for a miraculous way to naturally descale a heavily scaled tap then citric acid is the best solution.

Here’s how to do this trick:

  1. Mix a little cold water with 1 tablespoon of citric acid.
  2. Mix well to form a kind of paste and spread it on the base of the faucet.
  3. Leave the paste to act for 1 to 2 hours, scrub with an old toothbrush and rinse.

5. Grandma’s recipe with salt and vinegar

Finally, I offer you a grandmother’s recipe which consists of using a mixture of salt and vinegar. Here’s how to make this cleansing recipe:

  1. Heat white vinegar and add coarse salt (mix well to dissolve the salt)
  2. Soak a cloth in this solution and rub the lime stains.
  3. Leave to act for a few minutes and rub again to remove all the limestone from the faucet.

You can use this grandma’s recipe to descale all your faucets in the bathroom and kitchen.
