Stephen Hawking suggests some form of ‘world government’ to control robots

In an interview with the Times, the famous British astrophysicist Stephen Hawking discusses the development of artificial intelligence, believing it necessary to create a form of world government to keep robotics under control.

» The human race will rise to meet the challenges caused by the development of artificial intelligence, said British astrophysicist Stephen Hawking in an interview with The Times on Tuesday, March 7, 2017. catastrophic climate, Stephen Hawking is nevertheless optimistic about the future.

» Since the beginning of civilization, the aggressiveness of the human species has been useful insofar as it provided clear advantages in terms of survival. “, he specifies.  » Aggression is programmed into our genes by Darwinian evolution. However, technology has advanced at such a rate that this aggressiveness can now drive humanity to destruction through nuclear or biological warfare. We need to control this instinct inherited from our logic and our reason « .

So, to maintain this instinct and evolution in the right direction, Stephen Hawking advocates training  » of a form of world government which could oversee the development of the power of artificial intelligence (AI).  » But it could become a tyranny. All of this may sound ominous, but I am an optimist. I think the human race will rise to meet these challenges « , he added.

The development of artificial intelligence is at the heart of the concerns of the astrophysicist who regularly speaks on the subject. In 2016, he already warned of a future where AI and humans would evolve together.  » I don’t think the development of artificial intelligence is necessarily for the best. When the machines reach a critical stage and evolve independently, we cannot predict if they will have the same objectives as us. » he declared then.

According to him, the real danger raised by artificial intelligence is not the possible malevolence, but the competence. It could be  » the best or the worst thing that has happened to mankind », hence the need to manage this correctly well in advance.
